Terms of service

1. Service provider (art. 10 LSSI-CE)

RailScope is a personal, non-commercial project available at https://railscope.es, operated by its owner, reachable at [email protected] (the "Provider"). It is offered free of charge, without advertising and without any economic exploitation of its users' data.

RailScope is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Renfe Operadora, ADIF, or any rail operator. Their names appear solely to attribute the origin of the open data reused.

2. Purpose and acceptance

These terms govern access to and use of RailScope: the public live map, network status, train pages, user accounts and the operations console. Using the site implies full acceptance; if you disagree, do not use it. The Privacy Policy complements these terms.

3. The service and its data

RailScope visualizes the Spanish rail network in real time: train positions, delays, time-distance diagrams ("mallas"), station boards and punctuality analytics. It is built on:

• Renfe open data (GTFS and GTFS-Realtime), licensed CC-BY 4.0.
• ADIF railway network geometry (© ADIF), via its public IDEADIF services.
• OpenStreetMap cartography (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).
• Metrics computed by RailScope itself from its own recorded history.

Between GPS fixes, train positions are estimated by interpolation and labeled as such. Delay figures are those published by the operators' feeds, as-is.

4. No warranty on the data

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of accuracy, completeness, availability or fitness for any particular purpose. Data may be delayed, incomplete or wrong; feeds fail; estimates are estimates.

Do not use RailScope to catch a train, plan connections, or for any safety-relevant or time-critical decision. Always check the operators' official channels. Nothing on this site constitutes official information from Renfe or ADIF.

5. Accounts

• Registration requires being at least 14 years old and providing truthful data.
• Registering by e-mail requires verifying it; Google Sign-In uses your verified Google address.
• You are responsible for keeping your credentials secret and for all activity on your account. Two-factor authentication is available and recommended.
• You may delete your account at any time from your panel ("Danger zone"); deletion is irreversible.

6. Acceptable use

It is forbidden to:

• Access or attempt to access other users' accounts or data, or areas not authorized for your role.
• Interfere with the service: abusive request rates, scraping that degrades it, denial-of-service, probing or circumventing security measures.
• Impersonate the Provider, Renfe, ADIF or third parties, or present RailScope data as official.
• Introduce malware or use the service to commit any unlawful act.
• Resell or commercially exploit the service without the Provider's consent.

Breaching these rules may lead to immediate suspension or deletion of the account (§11).

7. Roles and operator access

Accounts have roles (viewer, controller/operator, administrator). Operator access — incident management, panel messages, the full console — is granted at the Provider's discretion upon request from your panel, and can be revoked at any time. Operator actions are recorded in the audit trail.

8. Intellectual property and licences

• The RailScope name, interface, code and original content belong to the Provider. All rights reserved except where a licence says otherwise.
• Timetable and real-time data: © Renfe, reused under CC-BY 4.0 — attribution is kept on every page and export.
• Railway geometry: © ADIF, from its public IDEADIF services.
• Base cartography: © OpenStreetMap contributors, under ODbL.

9. Exports and sharing

Exports generated by RailScope (e.g. malla PDFs) carry the site URL and the data attributions. You may share them for non-commercial purposes provided the attributions and the URL remain intact — they identify both the data licences and the origin of the document.

10. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Provider is not liable for damages arising from using or being unable to use the service, from data inaccuracies, or from decisions taken based on the information shown. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded (e.g. wilful misconduct).

The Provider responds for third-party content only within the limits of arts. 13–17 LSSI-CE. If you believe any content infringes your rights, write to the contact address and it will be reviewed promptly.

11. Suspension and termination

The Provider may suspend or disable accounts that breach these terms, and may suspend, modify or discontinue the service (in whole or in part) at any time. Where reasonably possible, material changes will be announced on the site.

12. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated; the date above always reflects the current version. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with a change, stop using the service and, if you wish, delete your account.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Spanish law. Disputes will be submitted to the courts of the Provider's domicile in Spain, except where you act as a consumer, in which case the courts of your own domicile remain available to you, together with the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform where applicable.
